Privacy Policy

What Sober Plus One collects, why we use it, and the choices you control. Last updated July 31, 2026.

At a glance

Sober Plus One is an adults-only dating and community service operated from the United States and available in supported countries worldwide. We do not sell personal information. We do not use sobriety, recovery, precise-location, message, or sexual-orientation data for targeted advertising. Dating profiles and messages are not public web pages.

Information you provide

Account data includes your display name, email address, password hash, date of birth or age confirmation, and security settings. Dating data may include photos, approximate location, identity and relationship preferences, profile prompts, likes, matches, blocks, reports, and private messages. Community data includes posts, comments, votes, and the community identity you choose. Support and payment records include messages you send us and purchase status; card details are handled by the payment provider.

Optional sobriety information

You may choose to describe your relationship with sobriety, alcohol-free living, recovery, venues, or substance boundaries. Do not provide diagnoses, treatment records, sponsor details, program attendance, or information about another person. We do not require a sobriety date, a program, a minimum sober duration, or proof of recovery. Optional recovery-related details are treated as sensitive: you choose their visibility, may remove them, and they are not sent to advertising analytics.

Location and nearby discovery

Nearby discovery uses an approximate location or area you provide or permit. Other members see an approximate distance or broad area when that setting is enabled—not raw coordinates. We use precise device location only with permission and only to calculate nearby results, fraud signals, or safety controls. You may deny location permission and use a manually selected area where available.

How we use information

We use information to provide accounts, onboarding, discovery, compatibility, matching, messaging, Community, customer support, payments, security, moderation, fraud prevention, service measurement, and legal compliance. We may use aggregated or de-identified statistics to improve the service. Optional analytics is off until a web visitor chooses it; necessary security logging does not depend on that choice.

Matching and moderation

Recommendations use preferences, approximate distance, activity, compatibility answers, and product-safety signals. They are suggestions, not clinical assessments or guarantees. Automated systems may rank content, detect spam, or flag possible policy violations, but material enforcement decisions can be reviewed by a person through support or an appeal.

What other people can see

Public Community posts, comments, channel names, scores, timestamps, and your chosen Community identity may be visible on the open web and indexed by search engines. Your dating profile, gallery, likes, matches, messages, blocks, reports, precise location, and private sobriety settings are restricted to authenticated product surfaces and the visibility choices shown to you. Never publish private recovery or identifying information about another person.

Service providers and disclosures

We disclose only what is reasonably necessary to providers that perform hosting, email delivery, content storage, security, error monitoring, push notifications, maps, authentication, payment, and app-store services. Providers may include Hetzner, Sentanyl, Stripe, RevenueCat, Apple, Google, and Firebase where those features are enabled. We may also disclose information to comply with valid legal process, protect a person from serious harm, investigate abuse, or complete a business transaction subject to appropriate safeguards.

No sale or behavioral-ad sharing

We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If our practices change, we will update this notice and provide legally required controls before the change takes effect. Global Privacy Control signals are honored for any processing that is legally treated as a sale, sharing, or targeted advertising.

Retention

Active account and product data is retained while needed to provide the service. Deleted account data is removed from active systems after a safety and recovery window, ordinarily within 30 days, unless it must be retained for chargebacks, security, fraud prevention, legal obligations, or the rights of others. Backup copies expire on their rotation schedule. Reports, moderation evidence, transaction records, and consent logs may be kept longer where reasonably necessary. Public posts may be anonymized rather than removed when needed to preserve discussion integrity, subject to applicable rights.

Security

We use access controls, encrypted transport, password hashing, separate production credentials, least-privilege administration, audit logging, backups, and abuse-rate limits. No system is perfectly secure. If we identify a qualifying breach, we will investigate, contain it, and provide notices required by applicable law without unreasonable delay.

Your choices and rights

Settings let you edit profile details, adjust visibility, block people, control location and notifications, export available account data, and request account deletion. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to know, access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, limit certain uses of sensitive data, receive portable data, appeal a denied request, and lodge a complaint with a regulator. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

Requests, verification, and appeals

Use Settings → Privacy or email privacy@soberplusone.com. Describe the request and the account email. We verify requests proportionately and will not ask for more sensitive information than reasonably necessary. Authorized agents should identify the person represented and provide proof of authority. If we deny a request, our response will explain how to appeal. You may withdraw consent without affecting processing that already lawfully occurred.

International use

The service is operated from the United States. If you use it elsewhere, information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where providers operate. Where required, we use an appropriate transfer mechanism and supplementary safeguards. Local law may provide additional rights.

Adults only

Sober Plus One is not directed to children and is limited to people aged 18 or older. We remove accounts when we learn the user is under 18. To report a possible minor, use the in-product report flow or email safety@soberplusone.com.
